Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound
At the Foundry Clinic we use ‘point-of- care ultrasound’ (often referred to as POCUS) alongside our physiotherapy assessment and treatment.
This allows for accurate diagnosis of soft tissue injuries, which in turn enables us to have a better understanding of how to manage a wide range of conditions.
An accurate diagnosis significantly advances treatment and management of a wide range of conditions. Diagnostic ultrasound also allows us to accurately direct treatments to a specific area of tissue damage, e.g. for dry needling techniques and ultrasound guided injections.
Diagnostic ultrasound identifies:
Shoulder
Rotator cuff tendinopathy and bursitis
Foot and ankle
Ligament injury, tendinopathy, bursitis, Morton’s neuroma, plantar fasciitis
Knee
Patella tendinopathy, quadriceps tendinopathy, osteoarthritis, bursitis, joint effusions, Baker’s/popliteal cyst, hamstring injuries
Elbow
Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, biceps injuries
Wrist and hand
Carpal tunnel, tendinopathy
Musculoskeletal conditions
The Foundry clinicians use ultrasound that has been proven to be as accurate at diagnosing a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions such as MRI and particularly for tendon injuries, as well as many muscle and ligament injuries.
Ultrasound assessments
- Nerve impingements
- Monitoring of tissue healing (muscles and tendons)
- Confirmation of swelling areas
